Employers on campus
On-campus employer presentations enable employers who offer graduate or vacation work the opportunity to inform you specifically about their current job vacancies and recruitment processes.
- Presentations are usually held at lunchtime or in the evening. A schedule of upcoming sessions can be found on Careers Online
- The peak times that employers come on campus are at the beginning of both semester one and semester two.
- Presentations usually include information about the nature of the company and the work, the training and development involved, the targeted disciplines, selection criteria and techniques that will be used to recruit students.
- Employers often bring recent graduates with them to speak about their work
- There is usually time available at each session to meet company representatives and ask questions.
- Occasionally employers conduct a networking hour where you move around the room and mingle with the company representatives rather than a formal presentation.
They are a great networking opportunities for you. Do some background research on the organisation so you can ask informed questions and make a good impression. Interacting with employers has more information.
Student societies – guidelines for organising employer events
We ask that student societies adhere to the following guidelines when organising events.
- View upcoming employer events on Careers Online to ensure your events do not interfere with the academic timetable, and do not clash with or negatively impact upon the scheduling of other similar events or activities.
- Student Societies can complement the work of Careers & Employment (C&E) by organising their own industry events, barbecues and networking sessions.
- You must not duplicate the employer events and activities conducted by C&E and the timing of these events needs to be coordinated through C&E
- Allow adequate lead-up time to market events/activities, provide employers with an opportunity to prepare their presentation and enable students to juggle their commitments so they can attend.
- C&E can advise on how best to organise career and employment related events/activities including the most appropriate theatre bookings, equipment requirements, compliance issues and parking arrangements.
Student societies should advise our Industry Engagement Consultant, Katie Bell (Ph: 03 9035 8870) of the proposed timing of their events and activities.
